Career Management Service
Career Management Services is a comprehensive program designed to assist members of the Jewish community wishing to manage their careers whether unemployed, changing employment, or securing promotions with current employers. The program addresses the traditional workforce, those returning to the workforce, retirees who wish to work and students entering the workforce for the first time. We provide career transition and career management coaching to members of the Jewish community who feel a need for assistance in any of these areas:
- Skills and interest identification: find your strong points and the areas where you could improve.
- Cover letter and resume building: clearly and articulately express your work experience and job skills.
- Job search techniques: exposing you to all the job search options online as well as the importance of networking.
- Career change planning: give tips on how to gracefully leave an existing job when the opportunity for a better job arises.
- Negotiation of remuneration packages: help you establish what you are worth compared to others in your field with your level of experience so you will have more confidence when discussing wage, benefit and stock options with an employer.
- Interview preparation: present yourself in the best light possible by avoiding common interviewing mistakes and get the opportunity to practice answering commonly asked interview questions
- Hosting a networking ‘job club’ meeting twice monthly: Career Management Services provides a meeting place for Jewish community members who are looking for changes in employment. The meetings are an opportunity for people to exchange information which could be advantageous in a job search and to hear speakers who can add to their success in their search.
- Offering a CMS website: with the assistance of the Jewish Federation’s FedWeb employers and those seeking our services can access information about the program and services we offer. There is a job bank to view job postings. You can also read a question and answer section by Cheryl Intrater and sign up for an email newsletter for updates on networking meetings.
You can expect positive results from our services including learning to manage career change, handling frustrations of long term unemployment, understanding the current job market, and how to access targeted employers. Services for this program are based out of our office at the Jewish Community Center at 5801 W. 115th St. in Overland Park, Kansas. Fees are determined on a sliding scale and no one is denied services based on their ability to pay.
