Immigrant and refugees are making a positive impact in our local cities and towns. The JVS Language and Cultural Services program can help your organization or business meet the needs of our region's growing immigrant and refugee communities.
"Bridging the Gap®" JVS trainers are licensed to teach this nationally recognized curriculum in health care interpretation. A 40-hour intensive, interactive program, the curriculum was developed by Cross Cultural Health Care Program in Seattle and has been used in training experienced and novice medical and social service interpreters across the country. The course is heavily participatory, including practice sessions, role plays, and small group discussions. A certificate of successful completion is given to all participants who complete the course and pass a final test.
"Cultural Competency for a Changing World " As the diversity of the populations that we serve continue to grow, the importance of cultural competency or "cultural and linguistic appropriateness" in the effective delivery of health and social services is undeniable. Learn how you can more effectively communicate with limited English-proficient clients, collaborate with families and coordinate services. This training is especially beneficial for front-line staff and administrators who work in health care, social services, and the public sector. Anyone who has an interest in working more effectively across cultures is welcome.
