Section 1: Overview and Purpose of Position 

The Immigration Department is responsible for providing direct service to refugees and immigrants qualified and eligible for benefits being sought. Responsibilities include scheduling appointments, interpreting/translating for immigration meetings, maintaining client files and a variety of other tasks related to immigration services and procedures as assigned.

Section 2: Qualifications (skills, education, experience)

High School Diploma 

Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Swahili) 

1 year of experience preferred

Section 3: Responsibilities/Duties 

Working along with the JVS immigration team as needed. 

Assures all client files are maintained in a confidential and secure manner. Coordinate immigration appointments 

Record clients immigration case progress, needs, updates or changes in the client database 

Responsible for scheduling program appointments with BIAS/AOR clients. Maintain calendar activities and duties accurately to date. 

Assures all client files are maintained in a confidential and secure manner. Assist clients with the immigration appointments for USCRI refugee programs such as : BIAS, AOR Affidavit of Relationship, HIAS, Lautemberg, CAM Central America Minors by explaining required documents and process. 

Maintain communication with USCRI program supervisors, reports, updates. Assist clients during the USCRI process as connect them with DNA test laboratories, inquiries, change of address or contact information, request of evidence, etc. Keep record of client interactions on the client database and/ or files. Assist RSS contacting clients to deliver employment documents. 

Assist in translating and interpreting for Foreign language speaking clients at JVS. Provide information to other service providers about JVS immigration services when requested. 

Attend and register for training assigned by the supervisor. 

Assist and direct clients with the different JVS departments or programs to have their needs covered. 

Assist with immigration mail such as : scan, call, enter data on the database system and file. 

Other duties as assigned.

Section 4: Skills Needed

Strong organizational and time management skills, with a proven ability to meet deadlines; able to effectively prioritize, delegate, and execute multiple tasks. Ability to be self-directed and highly flexible in daily work. 

Ability to work effectively in an environment that is multicultural and multilingual.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to develop positive working relationships with both internal and external collaborators. 

Strong computer skills and proficiency in Word, Excel, Google Docs and internet-based communication.

Section 5: Working Conditions and Physical Effort 

Hours- regular schedule 

Much of the work is typically performed in an interior temperature-controlled office work environment. Position requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 

Some work may be performed at community sites such as other agency offices, schools, libraries, and other public meeting places. Employees may experience exposure to temperature extremes when in training situations, in a car, and while traveling to contacts outside of the agency facility. 

Position requires frequent bending, squatting, sitting, standing, pulling, pushing, lifting, and moving items that may weigh up to 20 lbs

Salary Range: $32,690 – $39,880
